Discover the secrets of the Andes on an unforgettable journey through Ecuador’s highlands, where towering volcanoes, vibrant cultures, and breathtaking landscapes await. We will explore Cotopaxi, Quilotoa, Baños, and Chimborazo, discovering local traditions, stunning lakes, and majestic peaks while enjoying unique experiences along the way.
We will begin our journey south, stopping at a bustling Andean market to experience local flavors and traditions. At Cotopaxi National Park, we will admire as many iconic landmarks as time and energy permit, such as Limpiopungo Lake, a hike to the first basecamp for a rewarding view, or the Inca ruins of Pucará Del Salitre or discover the wildlife at Owls Cave. Later, we will visit a rose plantation to learn about Ecuador’s renowned blooms before settling into our accommodations.
Day 2
Quilotoa & Tigua Workshop
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast, we will explore the trails of a traditional hacienda, choosing between horseback riding or biking amid stunning landscapes. Our journey continues to the breathtaking Quilotoa Crater Lake, where we will take in the striking turquoise waters and choose between scenic hikes to different viewpoints. In the afternoon, we will visit Tigua, admiring its vibrant art and woodwork before continuing to Baños.
Day 3
Baños: Waterfalls & Scenic Views
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
We will visit the spectacular Devil’s Cauldron and Mantle of the Bride waterfalls, marveling at their power and beauty. From a scenic viewpoint, we will admire Tungurahua volcano and the lush valleys, then stop at the famous “swing at the end of the world.” After exploring Baños’ charming streets and tasting handmade ‘melcocha’ candy, we will continue our journey south toward Riobamba, where we will rest for the night.
Day 4
Chimborazo – Hiking Experience
Breakfast, Lunch
We will journey through picturesque Andean villages to reach Chimborazo, the closest point to the sun. A rewarding hike will take us to the first basecamp at 15,915 feet, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. We will continue to Condor Cocha Lake, where we may spot Andean wildlife in this high-altitude wonderland. After taking in the majestic landscapes, we will enjoy a final meal together before returning to Quito.
